Priorities: Basic Skills

To improve literacy and numeracy skills in the adult population (16+)

The business community in Ryedale need a workforce that is literate, numerate and with good interpersonal skills (Source: LSC key facts document for Ryedale District Council). Through the Ryedale Strategic Partnership we hope to:

• Engage with the business sector towards meeting identified need
• Increase awareness amongst each sector of the work and value of the other sectors
• Improve levels of literacy and numeracy in the District
• Improve co-ordination and communication between sectors
• Increase volunteering
• Bring reluctant learners into learning

The delivery of the action plan to achieve this outcome will be lead by the Ryedale Area Learning Partnership

Objectives

• Reduce the proportion of resident population aged 16-60 with poor literacy skills
• Reduce the proportion of resident population aged 16-60 with poor numeracy skills
• % of residents who affirm that they carried out voluntary work
